Pool Alarms and Safety Covers Compared
Pool alarms and safety covers solve different problems, and conflating them leads to a false sense of security about which risk is actually covered. Gleannloch Farms routes pool and backyard plans through its HOA architectural review, and golf-course-adjacent lots there need drainage planned so runoff moves correctly relative to the course, both addressed in the design step.

Alarm Types
Surface-wave alarms detect disturbance on the water's surface and sound when something, a person, a pet, enters the pool; they are a detection layer, not a prevention layer, meaning something has already entered the water by the time they trigger. Door and gate alarms sound when an exit toward the pool area opens, catching the problem earlier, before anyone has reached the water.
Safety Covers
A rated solid safety cover, properly anchored and rated to support weight, is a prevention layer: it physically blocks access to the water when in place, unlike a decorative or leaf cover that is not rated for safety use. The key distinction homeowners sometimes miss is that not all pool covers meet safety-cover standards; confirming a cover is specifically rated and certified as a safety cover (not just a cover) matters if it is meant to serve that function.
